American gem faceter Roger Dery and his wife, Ginger, fell in love with Africa and are committed to helping the people. Several years ago they learned about the Kitarini School from their African gem friends, Sune and wife Pia. Sune, half Maasai, is an Arusha-based gem dealer and tanzanite miner. He had seen a need for a real school in Kitarini and was instrumental in building the first classrooms. Roger and Ginger Dery have since brought dozens of their gem friends to Kitarini many of whom have donated to the Devon Foundation. One of their gem travelers, Dan Lynch of Michigan, has committed his efforts to building a library and has raised seed funds for its construction in 2018.
